Knowing God
Genesis 1:1, In the beginning God ….
Psalm 9:16, The Lord has made Himself known.
Jeremiah 9:23-24 Thus says the Lord, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; 24 but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the Lord.
Exodus 33:13, 18, Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight, let me know Your ways that I may know You, so that I may find favor in Your sight….. Then Moses said, “I pray You, show me Your glory!”
Psalm 103:7, He made known His ways to Moses,
His acts to the sons of Israel.
Psalm 25:4, Make me know Your ways, O Lord;
Teach me Your paths.
Philippians 3:10, that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death
Psalm 9:10, And those who know Your name will put their trust in You,
For You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.
Daniel 11:32, the people who know their God will display strength and take action.
The LORD (Yahweh) has revealed Himself. The LORD has made Himself known to mankind. He has chosen to graciously reveal Himself to us in exclusively one book, the Bible. Do you know the holy Biblical truths the LORD has revealed to us about Himself? Are you growing in your knowledge of the Biblical truths God has revealed to us about Himself?
Now, you must understand that what you believe about God must be in full agreement with what God has revealed about Himself. The slightest disagreement between your belief and what God has revealed about Himself means your belief is false and idolatrous. And God has revealed that He abhors idols and every form of idolatry. The LORD has given to us in His revealed word some of the harshest statements against idols and idolatry.
The context of Gen.1:1 is creation. God has revealed He is the Creator. The context of Psa.9:16 is judgment. God has revealed He is the Judge. Even though the LORD’S revelation of Himself fills the Bible of 66 books, we must understand, with humility, that the LORD’S revelation of Himself to us is not exhaustive because He is infinite. “Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!” (Rom.11:33).
Knowledge about God is NOT enough. Knowledge about God must lead to knowledge of God. Do you know God? Read again and very carefully the verses listed above. Do you know God in the salvation He gives in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ? John 17:3 says, “This is eternal life (salvation), that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” This is the beginning of knowing God. There is no other beginning for knowing God. If you do not come to the only true God through His Son, Jesus, you will meet a closed door.
Are you coming to know God more and more in your daily Christian life and growth in Christ? Are you growing in your knowledge of God both doctrinally and experientially? Is your earnest prayer and deep longing the prayer of Moses, David, and Paul, “Lord, let me know You”?
